Part of that parcel is supposed to be an expansion of the park and another small, District Hall-type structure. The rest is to be developed into another mid-rise.

Is the plan to remove that whole surface lot along the rail line? It's closed now.

Have we ever seen a rendering of the building with the antenna?

Damn but that render cyclist gets confused easily and often. Maybe he's always just about to pass through and then he looks over and says, "Dammit, who is this dude taking my photo every five seconds? Can't a man in a floppy red cap just bicycle without everyone staring?"

To be clear, that article that is "sparking" this discussion is three years old. There is no news on the Suffolk County Courthouse, though they do plan to include yet another study of the building's future in next year's budget.

I really doubt Parcel 13's proposed structure will be as bad as all that. At street level, the facade is pretty broken up by non-red-wall, and the facade material itself has far more definition than the State Transportation Building. Plus, this parcel is around 40% of that one in total square feet.

Plus, Phase II is supposed to build off of and emulate Phase I. And give a pretty solid makeover to the Gainsborough streetscape in the process. I was under the impression that NEC wanted to move right from one to the next.

I wonder if people in the buildings around here realize how much this little stump is eventually going to dominate the area.

Yup

For all the failings of this particular project, it is what's visible in Beeline's last two photos that is the clear win here: the new pedestrian and bike connection to Farnsworth St.

There's something I just love about buildings cropping up right next to the highway, like this one, the Ink Block, and Troy-- and someday the Flower Exchange. Maybe it's that our highways typically don't just kill a ton of space that becomes roads, they also tend to kill huge amounts of land...

These redevelopment projects across the city's housing stock are some of the coolest developments going on. They will change the city in meaningful ways and vastly (hopefully) improve the neighborhoods they're going into. Obviously there's lots of politics involved too, but redeveloping sites...

According to the renders for this project, the panels are indeed supposed to be temporary.
